Man Fatally Shot in Opelousas, Police Searching for Suspect

Opelousas Police were called to the scene of a shooting in the early hours of Monday morning. The incident occurred in the 300 block of S. Academy St. at approximately 2 a.m. The police responded promptly to a report of gunfire, which was heard by officers working security at Club Heels. They quickly arrived at a nearby parking lot where they discovered a man suffering from a fatal gunshot injury. The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Joseph Sylvester from Breaux Bridge.

The Opelousas Police have identified the suspected shooter as 49-year-old Craig Oliver Moore from Carencro. After the shooting, Moore is believed to have fled the area in an attempt to avoid arrest. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution as Moore is considered to be armed and dangerous.
