Dennis Coates Given $1 Million Bond in Fatal Shooting of 23-Year-Old Woman Holding Baby

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The suspect in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old woman while she was holding a 7-month-old baby was given a $1 million bond.

Dennis J. Coates, a 21-year-old resident of Cleveland, has been charged with one count of aggravated murder in Cleveland Municipal Court.

The victim, identified as 23-year-old Dimesha Wright, was shot in the early hours of Thursday, December 14 in the 18000 block of Harland Avenue, near the Lakeshore Boulevard intersection.

EMS workers pronounced Wright dead at the scene. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed but was taken to a hospital for evaluation as a precautionary measure.

Coates surrendered himself and was subsequently arrested by the police. He appeared in court on Monday morning, and his case has been referred to a Cuyahoga County grand jury for potential indictment.
