Springfield Police Arrest Chatham Man with Loaded Gun and Narcotics

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — In a recent traffic stop, Springfield Police apprehended a Chatham man after discovering a loaded firearm and a variety of narcotics in his vehicle.

Late on Sunday night, around 11 p.m., Springfield Police conducted a routine car pull-over in the vicinity of Cook and Pasfield Streets. The driver, identified as Marshall Holmes, a 22-year-old resident, was brought to the attention of the Springfield Police Department. As Holmes exited the vehicle, officers immediately noticed a single round of ammunition resting on the driver’s seat.

Prompted by this discovery, law enforcement proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the suspect’s vehicle. Their search revealed a loaded SCCY CXP-3 9mm firearm, along with a significant quantity of illicit substances, including methamphetamine, heroin, psilocybin mushrooms, and prescription medications.

As a result of this alarming find, Holmes was promptly placed under arrest and transported to the Sangamon County Jail. Pending formal charges, he currently faces multiple serious allegations, including armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, possession of firearm ammunition, and possession of a firearm.
