Birmingham Shooting: Man Fatally Shot in Lakeview District Identified as Pinson Resident
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) has identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend in the vibrant Lakeview District. The incident took place around 2:50 a.m., when off-duty security personnel at a local bar reported hearing gunshots in the 700 block of 29th Street South.

Upon receiving the distress call, BPD officers swiftly responded to the scene, where they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds near a bustling food truck. Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:02 a.m. by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office (JCCO). The other victim was immediately rushed to UAB Hospital, fighting for his life.
The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Antonio Deandre Benson, a resident of Birmingham’s neighboring city, Pinson, according to the JCCO. The BPD has since launched a thorough investigation into Benson’s untimely demise, treating it as a homicide.
