63-Year-Old Farmer Tragically Killed in Elephant Attack

A 63-year-old farmer lost his life in a devastating incident when a wild elephant attacked him while he was on his way to his silk farm on Sunday. The unfortunate incident occurred in the village of Harohallidoddi, located in the Harohalli hobli of Kanakapura taluk on the outskirts of Bengaluru, at 5.30 am.
Victim Identified
The victim has been identified as Thimmegowda, a well-known figure in the sericulture farming community. Tragically, while he was on his way to Harohallidoddi to water his farm in the early hours of Sunday, he was trampled by an elephant. The animal initially attacked Thimmegowda with its head, causing him to fall to the ground. Within moments, the elephant then stepped on his chest, leading to the farmer’s unfortunate demise.

Upon receiving the distressing news, Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) Lingaraju, accompanied by other forest officials, promptly visited the site of the incident. The presence of forest authorities aims to assess the situation and take necessary measures to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
Anger and Frustration
The local villagers, upon gathering at the scene in large numbers, expressed their anger and frustration towards the forest department. They shared their concerns about living in constant fear due to frequent elephant sightings in the area. The villagers blamed the department for the lack of effective safety measures in place to control the elephants from entering their community.
Government Intervention
Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, upon learning of the tragic incident, instructed the forest authorities to provide compensation to Thimmegowda’s grieving family. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for the forest department to take immediate and appropriate action to prevent further elephant-related incidents in the area.
