KOLKATA: A tragic incident unfolded at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata, as the lifeless body of a 21-year-old youth was discovered hanging from one of the galleries. The young man has been identified as Dhananjay Barik, the son of a ground worker at the stadium.

According to the authorities, Barik’s body was found hanging from the upper tier of gallery K by one of the caretakers on Monday. The youth had been reported missing since Sunday afternoon.

An officer at the scene stated that Barik may have been suffering from depression due to his inability to secure a position as a ground staff at Eden Gardens, despite his father and uncle being employed there. The police are currently investigating whether this is a case of suicide or if there is any other underlying cause. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The family of the deceased had filed a missing complaint with the Maidan police station on Sunday. It was revealed that Barik was residing with his father and uncle in the staff quarters designated for Eden Gardens’ employees.
