Two men have been accused of murdering their 18-year-old sister and disposing of her body in Ganga Canal, Muradnagar. The police suspect this to be a case of honor killing. The victim, originally from Roorkee in Uttarakhand, was currently residing in Delhi at a relative’s place. The alleged perpetrators, identified as Sufiyan from Roorkee (the deceased’s brother) and Mahtab from Muzaffarnagar (the deceased’s cousin), are the prime suspects in this tragic incident.

The two men reportedly suspected that the victim was involved in a romantic relationship with a man from Ghaziabad. Under the pretext of taking her back home, the accused brought their sister from Delhi to Ganga Canal in Muradnagar. Once there, they took her to a secluded area and allegedly strangled her, according to a senior police official.

On the evening of December 16, the police’s Cheetah mobile stopped two individuals for questioning near Ganganagar in the Muradnagar police station area. The suspects confessed to strangling their sister with a towel and disposing of her body in the Ganga Canal. In response, the police swiftly initiated search operations with the assistance of NDRF and local divers. Both suspects have been apprehended and are currently undergoing interrogation,” revealed Naresh Kumar, ACP Masoori, Ghaziabad.

During the investigation, the police managed to recover the victim’s sandals, Aadhaar card, and the towel allegedly used in the crime.

According to ACP Kumar, the preliminary assessment points to this being a case of honor killing. “The accused claimed that they murdered their sister due to her romantic involvement with a man. The family disapproved of this relationship, which led to the tragic outcome,” added Kumar.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the law, and further legal action is being pursued.
