Thane (Maharashtra), Dec 17, 2023 – In a recent development, a special investigation team (SIT) has been established to probe the Thane incident in which a woman accused her boyfriend, Ashwajit Gaikwad, the son of a senior bureaucrat, of mowing her down with his car. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday near a hotel in Thane city. The police have registered a case against the accused and are conducting a thorough investigation.

The SIT, led by DCP Zone 5 Amar Singh Jadhav, has been formed to ensure a comprehensive inquiry into the case. The team will scrutinize all aspects of the incident, record statements of witnesses, and collect forensic evidence to ascertain the truth. The accused, Ashwajit Anil Gaikwad, along with others, has been named as the primary suspects in the case.

Providing further details about the incident, CP Thane, Jai Jeet Singh, stated, “All aspects are being considered. Statements of witnesses are being recorded and forensic evidence is being collected.” The incident left a 26-year-old woman severely injured. The victim, who had gone to meet Ashwajit Gaikwad, suffered injuries after an argument broke out between them and two other individuals identified as Romil Patil and Sagar.

The victim, identified as Priya Singh, described the harrowing ordeal and revealed that she had been in a four-and-a-half-year relationship with her boyfriend. However, she was unaware of his marital status until later. When she confronted him about it, an argument ensued, leading to the alleged hit-and-run incident. Singh shared the extent of her injuries, stating that three bones in her right leg were broken and she had deep injuries from her left shoulder to her hips, making it difficult for her to move.

Singh further expressed her frustration with the lack of action taken by the police when she initially filed an FIR. However, she received support from social media when she posted about the incident, prompting the police to take action.
