Tragic Incident Claims Life of Single Mother in Delhi Metro Accident

A heart-wrenching incident took place at Inderlok Metro station in Delhi, resulting in the unfortunate demise of a 35-year-old single mother. Reena, the victim, was traveling with her 11-year-old son when her saree got entangled in the doors of a Delhi Metro train. Tragically, she was dragged for several meters before falling onto the tracks, leading to severe injuries. Despite receiving immediate medical attention at Safdarjung Hospital, Reena passed away during her treatment.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has expressed its condolences and announced that the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety will conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident. The aim is to determine the cause and prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.

CCTV footage reviewed by authorities suggests that Reena entered the coach but quickly turned back to retrieve her child, who was left behind on the platform. It is suspected that her saree got caught in the train doors as it began moving, resulting in her being pulled onto the platform and subsequently falling onto the tracks. The DMRC is keen on understanding why the doors did not open automatically when an obstruction was detected.

Following the accident, Reena was initially taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital. However, due to the unavailability of a ventilator, she was denied admission. Other hospitals also reportedly declined to admit her, causing a delay in receiving appropriate medical care. Eventually, she was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital where doctors, upon her arrival, described her condition as critical.

Reena, who had been selling vegetables to support her family since her husband’s demise in 2014, leaves behind her 10-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter. Her relatives have expressed deep concern regarding the well-being of the children and their future education expenses.

The DMRC is known for its emphasis on passenger safety, regularly reminding commuters to exercise caution with loose clothing and belongings while boarding and alighting from the trains. Additionally, emergency alarm buttons are readily available to alert the train operator in case of any issues or emergencies.

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and being vigilant while using public transportation systems. The DMRC’s inquiry will hopefully shed light on the circumstances leading to this unfortunate accident, paving the way for improved safety measures in the future.
