Identification of the Deceased

The victim has been identified as Arbina, a resident of Samrudhi Apartment in Kasavanahalli, Bengaluru.

The Unfortunate Accident

According to the police, Arbina was playing in front of the apartment gate around 8:30 am on the day of the incident when she was run over by a car allegedly driven by a resident. As a result of the accident, Arbina sustained injuries to her right hand and leg, causing her immense pain and distress.

Immediate Response and Tragic Outcome

Arbina’s father, Jog Jathar, who worked as a security guard at Samrudhi Apartment, quickly rushed his injured daughter to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) for medical treatment. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Arbina was declared dead at the hospital, shocking her grieving family.

Investigation and Post-Mortem Findings

Following the accident, Arbina’s father lodged a complaint with the police, prompting them to register a case of unnatural death. The child’s body was then transferred to St John’s Hospital for a post-mortem examination. During the examination, doctors discovered signs of internal bleeding in Arbina’s head, which they immediately reported to the authorities.

Crucial CCTV Footage

As part of their investigation, the police accessed CCTV camera footage from the apartment complex. The video clearly showed Arbina playing outside the gate when a car exiting the premises struck her, with its rear wheel running over her tiny body. Despite the impact, Arbina managed to get up and continue playing with another child briefly before collapsing to the ground.

Identification of the Accused

Based on the video evidence, the police successfully identified the driver responsible for the accident. Surprisingly, the accused turned out to be a resident of the same apartment complex. Consequently, the Bellandur police have transferred the case to the Bellandur traffic police station for further investigation.

Driver’s Suspected Actions

Authorities suspect that the driver was fully aware of hitting Arbina but callously chose not to stop and render assistance. This negligence and lack of humanity have only compounded the tragedy.

Legal Action and Ongoing Probe

The police have registered a case against the accused under sections 304 (a) and 279 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 134 (a) and (b) of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act. An investigation is currently underway to gather more evidence and establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Arbina’s family during this devastating time. This tragic incident serves as a reminder for everyone to prioritize road safety and exercise caution to prevent such heart-wrenching accidents from occurring in the future.
