Recounting the extent of her injuries, Singh said, “Three bones in my right leg are broken, and I have undergone surgery. I have deep injuries from my left shoulder to my hips, rendering me unable to move my body.” Despite filing a police report four days prior to the incident, no action was taken until she posted about it on social media. Singh expressed gratitude for the police’s support following her online plea.
In response to the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation. The case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). DCP Zone 5, Amarsingh Jadhav, confirmed the formation of the SIT and stated that witness statements have already been recorded.
The victim, a 26-year-old woman, suffered severe injuries when her boyfriend, Ashwajit Gaikwad, attempted to run her over with his car. Gaikwad is the son of a senior bureaucrat, adding complexity to the case.
