Nagpur, Dec 17 (PTI) – In a tragic incident, a blast occurred at an explosives manufacturing factory in Bazaargaon area of Nagpur district, Maharashtra on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of nine individuals and leaving three others seriously injured, according to local authorities.

The explosion took place at 9 am in the cast booster unit of Solar Industries, a renowned company specializing in the production of drones and explosives for the armed forces, as confirmed by a senior police official.

The unit, which is located 40 km away from Nagpur, suffered severe damage due to the blast. At the time of the incident, there were twelve workers present in the building.

Reacting to the unfortunate event, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences for the nine lives lost. He also announced that the state government would provide an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. This decision has been approved by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Among the victims, six were women. The deceased individuals have been identified as Yuvraj Charode, Omeshwar Macchirke, Mita Uikey, Aarti Sahare, Swetali Marbate, Pushpa Manapure, Bhagyashree Lonare, Rumita Uikey, and Mausam Patle, as confirmed by a police official.

Solar Industries’ senior general manager, Ashish Shrivastav, informed reporters that the blast occurred in the building where boosters used in coal mines are manufactured. It happened during the sealing process of the product.

Authorities, including the police, administration personnel, and management staff, are currently present at the site. They are assessing the extent of the damage caused by the explosion and conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause.

Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar assured that the safety of the surrounding areas is being prioritized. Meanwhile, the state government stands in solidarity with the families affected by this tragic incident.
