The incident came to light when a welfare check call was made to the police shortly after 11 p.m. Responding to the call, an officer arrived at a Jack in the Box parking lot, where a gray Kia Forte with significant damage to its front end, hood, and windshield was discovered.

To the officer’s horror, a deceased individual was observed in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

The driver, later identified as Nestor Joel Lujan Flores, was immediately detained by law enforcement.

Upon further investigation, first responders confirmed the presence of the deceased person in the passenger seat. However, the victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed.

According to reports, Flores allegedly claimed that he believed he had struck an animal in Dallas before driving to the restaurant parking lot. Surprisingly, he did not contact the authorities regarding the incident.

Law enforcement reached out to multiple agencies to determine if any information regarding a hit-and-run or pedestrian accident had been reported. However, no local agencies had documented such an incident.

To aid their investigation, the police utilized Flock cameras, which track vehicles through license plates. They determined that the accident likely occurred between Arlington and White Settlement, specifically in the 1900 block of E. Mayfield at New York Avenue, shortly after 6 p.m.

Investigators believe that the impact of the collision caused the pedestrian to be propelled inside the suspect’s vehicle, ultimately landing in the passenger seat.

It is worth noting that Flores arrived at the restaurant parking lot between 8-9 p.m., despite the fact that no emergency calls were made until several hours later.

Currently, Flores remains in custody. However, the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office will conduct a comprehensive review before determining the specific criminal charges to be filed.
