Accident – death – Obituary News : LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — In a shocking turn of events, an NBA G League player and his girlfriend have been arrested for the murder of a missing woman in Las Vegas. Chance Comanche, 27, and Sakari Harnden, 19, were taken into custody after the remains of Marayna Rodgers, 23, were discovered in a desert area near Henderson, just outside of Las Vegas.
Rodgers, a medical assistant from Washington state, was visiting Las Vegas with friends in early December when she disappeared. Her family reported her missing on December 6, and she had not been seen since. The investigation took a grim turn when human remains were found and later identified as Rodgers.
Las Vegas Metro Police announced on Sunday that Comanche and Harnden are expected to face an open murder charge for their involvement in Rodgers’ death. Detectives determined that the couple was responsible for her murder after gathering evidence.
The events leading up to Rodgers’ disappearance began on December 5 when she went out with friends and planned to meet Harnden, who was accompanied by her boyfriend, Comanche. Detectives suspected foul play and subsequently arrested Comanche and Harnden.
Comanche, who played for the Stockton Kings, the G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, was apprehended in California by the FBI Criminal Apprehension Team. He is currently being held at the Sacramento County Jail and is expected to be extradited to Nevada.
Harnden, on the other hand, was taken into custody in Las Vegas on a first-degree kidnapping charge. She remains in jail with a bail set at $500,000. Court records reveal that Harnden admitted to holding or detaining Rodgers against her will and without her consent, with the intention of causing harm or killing her.
The shocking news of Comanche’s and Harnden’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the basketball community. Comanche, who went undrafted after playing college basketball at the University of Arizona, had been with the Stockton Kings for the past two seasons. The team promptly released him following his arrest, with a spokesperson declining to comment further on the matter.
