A 37-year-old Kashmiri man has been apprehended by the Odisha Police in the Jajpur district on charges of defrauding individuals. The accused, identified as Sayed Ishaan Bukhari, had been impersonating an official in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and an Army doctor. The arrest was made following a tip-off received by the Odisha Police Special Task Force.

The accused, who is believed to have connections with individuals in Pakistan and suspicious elements in Kerala, has a notorious history of marrying multiple women across various states in India. STF Inspector General JN Pankaj stated that the accused had impersonated several professions, including a neuro specialist, an Army doctor, an officer in the PMO, and even claimed to be associated with high-ranking NIA officials.

During the arrest, the Odisha Police Special Task Force seized a significant amount of forged documents, including medical degree certificates allegedly issued by prestigious institutions such as Cornell University in the USA and the Canadian Health Services Institute. Additionally, the police discovered a cache of fake affidavits, bonds, ATM cards, blank cheques, Aadhaar cards, and visiting cards in the possession of the accused, who hails from Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir.

STF Inspector General JN Pankaj shed light on the extent of the accused’s activities, revealing that he had married at least six to seven women from various parts of India, including Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. The accused, who posed as a doctor with purported international degrees, also engaged in romantic relationships with multiple women.

Further investigations revealed that the accused is wanted by the Kashmir Police in connection with a case of cheating and forgery, with a non-bailable warrant pending against him. Addressing concerns about the accused’s potential links to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pankaj stated that no such connections were found during the investigation. To unravel the full extent of the accused’s activities, a joint team comprising police from Punjab, Kashmir, and Odisha will conduct further interrogations.

The arrest of the Kashmiri man involved in impersonating a PMO official and an Army doctor has sent shockwaves throughout the country. Such fraudulent activities not only deceive innocent individuals but also undermine the integrity of important institutions. It is imperative for law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant and take swift action against those involved in such crimes.
