Stockton Kings Player and Girlfriend Arrested in Connection to Murder Investigation

LAS VEGAS — The arrest of a professional basketball player from the Stockton Kings, who was subsequently released from the team, has been linked to an ongoing kidnapping-turned-murder investigation, according to officials from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The player, identified as Chance Comanche, and his girlfriend, Sakari Harnden, were arrested in different states in relation to the case.

Law enforcement authorities in Las Vegas reported that Marayna Rodgers was reported missing on December 7th. Rodgers had gone out with friends on December 5th, with plans to meet her friend, 19-year-old Sakari Harnden, and her boyfriend, former Stockton Kings player Chance Comanche.

Following the planned meeting, Rodgers had not been seen or heard from, leading investigators to suspect foul play. Harnden and Comanche were subsequently arrested on suspicion of kidnapping. Harnden was apprehended in Las Vegas on Wednesday, while Comanche was arrested by an FBI team in Sacramento on Friday. Comanche is currently awaiting extradition to Nevada.

After the arrests, law enforcement officers discovered Rodgers’ remains in a desert area in Nevada. Officials have expressed their intention to charge Harnden and Comanche with open murder.

The Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, announced the release of Chance Comanche on Friday. However, no further details regarding his release were provided. Comanche had been drafted to play for the team last season.

According to Sacramento County jail records, Comanche is currently ineligible for bail.
