Corydon Pursuit Ends in Fatal Crash, State Police Suspect Alcohol Impairment

CORYDON, Ind. (WANE) – A tragic incident unfolded in Harrison County when a high-speed pursuit came to a devastating end with a fatal crash on Saturday evening. The Indiana State Police suspect that the driver involved in the pursuit was under the influence of alcohol.

According to an official statement by the Indiana State Police, the harrowing incident occurred when a vigilant trooper patrolling State Road 62 in downtown Corydon observed an SUV brazenly ignoring a stop sign at an intersection. The SUV made no attempt to slow down as it recklessly crossed the highway.

Recognizing the need to address this dangerous situation, the trooper promptly initiated a traffic stop to address the driver’s disregard for traffic regulations. However, instead of complying with the trooper’s instructions, the driver executed a sudden U-turn, blatantly bypassing the trooper’s vehicle and re-entering SR 62.

Despite the trooper’s efforts to catch up to the SUV, it tragically veered off the road, hurtling towards a tree, resulting in a catastrophic collision. The force of impact was overwhelming, leading to the instantaneous fatality of the SUV’s driver, who was ejected from the vehicle. The victim, a woman from Corydon, tragically lost her life in the crash. Authorities have chosen not to release her name at this time.
