Former NBA G-League Player Arrested in Connection with Kidnapping Turned Murder Case

Chance Comanche, a former player in the NBA’s G-League, was apprehended on Friday in relation to a kidnapping case that tragically ended in murder. The arrest of the 27-year-old Comanche and a 19-year-old woman named Sakari Harnden was made with the assistance of the FBI’s Criminal Apprehension Team following a missing-person report filed on December 7. The report concerned Marayna Rodgers, a 23-year-old resident of Washington state who was visiting Las Vegas.

Based on the information obtained after the arrests, authorities discovered human remains in a desert area in Henderson, Nevada. The Clark County coroner’s office confirmed that the remains belonged to Rodgers. Consequently, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has accused Comanche and Harnden of being responsible for Rodgers’s murder. They are currently working with the Clark County district attorney’s office to amend the charges against the duo to open murder.

Comanche was booked on Friday under a section of the California penal code related to the arrest of individuals wanted on charges originating outside the state. He is currently being held without bail, according to online records from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. On the same day as his arrest, Comanche was released by the Stockton Kings, the G-League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings. The team did not provide a reason for his release.

It was reported by Las Vegas TV station KLAS that a warrant for first-degree kidnapping was issued on Friday in Las Vegas Justice Court. The LVMPD stated that Harnden, a friend of Rodgers, invited her to a pre-arranged meeting on December 5, during which Harnden brought Comanche. Rodgers has not been seen or heard from since that day.

Comanche was with the Stockton Kings when they played a game in Henderson on December 5. The team had a day off before their next game in Portland, Oregon. Harnden, on the other hand, was booked on Wednesday on charges of first-degree kidnapping and possession of stolen property. She is currently being held on $500,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 28. Additionally, Harnden has a hearing on Tuesday for the charge of possession of stolen property.
