Nine Dead and Three Injured in Blast at Explosives Manufacturing Factory in Nagpur

NAGPUR: A devastating explosion at an explosives manufacturing factory in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district on Sunday has claimed the lives of nine individuals, while leaving three others with serious injuries, according to local police reports.
The blast occurred at 9 am within the cast booster unit of Solar Industries, located in the Bazaargaon area. A senior police official confirmed the casualties resulting from the incident.
Tragically, the explosion caused severe damage to the building where the factory is situated, which is about 40 km away from Nagpur. At the time of the blast, there were 12 workers present in the unit.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, expressed his condolences for the loss of life in a recent post on social media platform X. He described the incident as unfortunate and announced that the state government will provide an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has also approved this decision.

Fadnavis revealed that the victims of the blast included six women and three men. Solar Industries is a company known for manufacturing drones and explosives for the armed forces.
Expressing solidarity with the families of the victims, Fadnavis assured them of the state government’s support during this difficult time. He further stated that he is in constant communication with the Nagpur collector and superintendent of police, with the inspector general, superintendent of police, and collector all present at the site of the incident.
Providing more details about the blast, Ashish Shrivastav, senior general manager of Solar Industries, explained that the explosion occurred in the building where boosters used in coal mines are produced. The incident took place while sealing work on the product was underway.
As of now, nine fatalities have been confirmed, with the injured workers rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Their condition is reported to be critical.
The police, along with administration personnel and the management staff, are present at the scene, coordinating efforts to assess the extent of damage caused by the explosion. A thorough investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the blast and ensure the safety of the surrounding areas, as stated by Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar.
According to sources, the factory was involved in manufacturing explosives used in coal mining blasts.
The nine individuals who lost their lives in the tragedy have been identified as Yuvraj Charode, Omeshwar Macchirke, Mita Uikey, Aarti Sahare, Swetali Marbate, Pushpa Manapure, Bhagyashree Lonare, Rumita Uikey, and Mausam Patle, confirmed a police official.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to provide support to the affected families and ensure the safety of the community.
