Woman in Bihar comes to aid of shot mother-in-law, nabs two attackers
Patna, Dec 17 (IANS) – Defying the stereotype of an antagonistic relationship between saas (mother-in-law) and bahu (daughter-in-law), a courageous woman in Bihar’s Begusarai district not only rushed to the aid of her mother-in-law after she was shot but also bravely fought with the two attackers and managed to apprehend them.
In a remarkable display of bravery, the woman, identified as Nibha Devi, has become the talk of the town in the region. The incident unfolded on the Chamta Rajauli Kurma embankment when Anita Devi, aged 60, was on her way to the market to buy some medicines on a Sunday morning.
Without any warning, two individuals suddenly opened fire at Anita Devi, causing her to sustain a gunshot injury and collapse on the ground. However, Nibha Devi, who was in her house not far from the scene, immediately sprung into action upon hearing the commotion.
With remarkable courage and determination, Nibha Devi chased after the attackers, successfully apprehending them and dragging them back to her house. She heroically locked them in a room, preventing their escape. Nibha Devi recounted the incident to local reporters, stating, “I was present in the house when the firing took place. I came out and saw my mother-in-law collapsed on the ground with two individuals attempting to flee. I pursued them and managed to apprehend them. After overpowering them, I brought them to the house and secured them in a room. I immediately contacted the police for assistance.”
Following the ordeal, Nibha Devi, with the help of villagers, rescued her injured mother-in-law and swiftly took her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bachhwara block for immediate medical attention. After receiving preliminary treatment, Anita Devi was referred to Sadar Hospital in Begusarai, where doctors successfully removed the bullet through surgery. Her condition is steadily improving, bringing relief to her family.
Nibha Devi also made serious allegations, claiming that the attackers had targeted her mother-in-law due to their covetous desire for the 5 Katha land registered in her name.
The officer in charge of Bachwara police station confirmed that one of the accused, named Amresh Kumar, along with an accomplice, committed the heinous crime. “We have taken the accused into custody under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for attempted murder. The investigation into the matter is currently underway,” the officer stated.
This incident serves as a powerful reminder that the bond between a saas and bahu can be one of strength and support, defying societal expectations. Nibha Devi’s courageous actions in protecting and seeking justice for her mother-in-law have inspired the local community and shed light on the resilience and determination of women in Bihar.
