Accident – death – Obituary News : Srinagar, 17th December: The Director General of Police (DGP), Rashmi Ranjan Swain, announced on Sunday that three hybrid terrorists affiliated with Al-Bader have been apprehended for their involvement in the shooting of a police constable in the Bemina area of Srinagar. The DGP revealed that these terrorists had several other targets, including policemen and civilians.

The incident took place on 9th December, when the terrorists opened fire on Muhammad Hafiz Chak, a Senior Grade Constable and son of Ghulam Hassan Chak from Lontha Karnah, near Hamdania Colony Bemina, Mathai Bund. Chak was immediately rushed to SKIMS (JVC) at Bemina, and later transferred to Army 92 Base Hospital for further treatment.

Following the attack, a case was registered at Police Station Bemina under FIR No 112/20/23, with charges under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 7/27 of the Arms Act, and 16, 18, 38 of the UAP(A), along with 120 P of the IPC.

Addressing a group of reporters, DGP R R Swain stated, “We have successfully arrested three hybrid terrorists who were involved in the attack on our policeman while he was returning home after duty.” He further commended the J&K Police for their efforts in tracing the attackers responsible for the assault on 9th December.

The three terrorists were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khanday, son of Tariq Ahmad Khanday from Hamdaniya Colony Sector-A, Danish Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Muhammad Malla from Colony Sector-A, and Mehnan Khan alias Mehran, son of Mehraj Din Khan from Khawajapora Saidapora, Rainawari, Srinagar.

Constable Chak fortunately survived the attack, and the DGP expressed hope for his full recovery, stating, “As far as the attackers are concerned, they had accomplished their mission, with six bullets fired, three of which hit the constable.”

During the news briefing, DGP Swain was accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Ashish Kumar Mishra, SP Police Component, Srinagar, Iftikhar Talib, and SP West, Srinagar, Amit Verma. Swain revealed that these terrorists were operating under the guidance of their Pakistan-based handler, Hamza Burhan, originally from Pulwama.

Malla, who resided in the same locality as the victim, was identified as the mastermind behind the conspiracy to attack Constable Chak. He recruited the other two terrorists, Imtiyaz Khanday and Mehnaan Khan, who conducted extensive reconnaissance before carrying out the shooting on the evening of 9th December.

The J&K Police chief informed, “We have recovered the pistol used in the attack based on the information provided by Khanday, who opened fire at the constable. Another pistol was seized from Mehran Khan, while Malla was found in possession of 57 pistol rounds.”

During interrogation, it was revealed that these individuals had several other targets in mind, with some already identified. Swain stated, “Most of the targets were policemen, but they also had non-policemen on their radar. Thanks to professional investigations, technology, and human intelligence, we have built a strong case that links these criminals to their crimes.”

When asked about the progress of the investigation into the killing of Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani, the DGP mentioned that the case was still under the jurisdiction of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He emphasized the need to avoid premature assumptions and connections in this ongoing investigation.

Swain also highlighted that the Turkish pistol Canik TP9 has emerged as the weapon of choice for terrorists. “There is clear evidence that Turkish pistols Canik TP9 are of very high quality and lightweight, making them easily transportable,” he explained. He further cautioned that such weapons are being dropped from drones and smuggled into J&K for executing terror activities.

In conclusion, the apprehension of these three hybrid terrorists involved in the shooting of a police constable in Srinagar is a significant achievement for the J&K Police. The investigation continues, and law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain peace and security in the region..
