A 35-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a heart-wrenching incident at the Inderlok Metro station in Delhi. The incident occurred on December 14, when the woman’s saree got caught in the door of a Delhi Metro train. As the train started moving, she was dragged along the platform, resulting in severe brain and chest injuries. Despite being rushed to several hospitals, the woman succumbed to her injuries on December 16 at Safdarjung Hospital.

The victim, identified as Reena, was an unsuspecting commuter on that fateful day. CCTV footage revealed that her saree got trapped in the door as the train began its journey. This spine-chilling incident unfolded as she was pulled along the platform, causing unimaginable distress.

It is disheartening to note that the woman was denied admission to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, Manohar Lohia Hospital, and Lok Nayak Hospital due to the unavailability of ventilators. Reena, the sole breadwinner of her family, made a living by selling vegetables.

Tragically, Reena had already lost her husband in 2014, leaving her 12-year-old daughter, Ria, and 10-year-old son, Hiten, as her only dependents. Ria, deeply shocked by her mother’s sudden demise, had spoken to her just the day before, where her mother had promised to return after attending a wedding.

The grief-stricken relatives of the deceased woman are now demanding a permanent house for the children, as they have lost their sole provider. They are also seeking compensation and proper education for Ria and Hiten. One of Reena’s relatives revealed, “She used to earn around Rs 400 a day… the children study at a government school nearby.”

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety has announced a thorough investigation into the incident. If any negligence is found, appropriate action will be taken. Witnesses have alleged that despite multiple passengers and people on the platform alerting the train driver about the trapped saree, the train continued to run. It was only when the driver of another approaching metro train noticed the victim’s body on the tracks that the metro officials were informed.
