Accident – Death – Obituary News : Dibrugarh: A 23-year-old chain snatcher managed to escape from the Bhadoi Police outpost in Dibrugarh district but was recaptured by the police after a six-hour long intense chase. The criminal, identified as Pankaj Burhagohain, was nabbed by the police on Friday afternoon and was being held in the lock-up of the Bhadoi police outpost.

The incident occurred around 6.15 pm when Burhagohain requested permission to use the toilet. However, when he failed to return after several minutes, the police realized that he had managed to slip away undetected, taking advantage of the understaffed police force at the outpost at that time.

Upon discovering Burhagohain’s escape, the police immediately swung into action and initiated a manhunt. Finally, at 12.45 am on Saturday, he was captured from a hideout near Duliajan town. During the operation, two of his accomplices involved in chain snatching and other crimes were also arrested. The police team received assistance from the Duliajan Police Station to track down and apprehend the fugitive.

“We managed to catch the thief after an intense chase of six hours,” said the in-charge (IC) of Bhadoi police outpost, Kameswar Gogoi.

The police identified Take through CCTV footage and apprehended him at Chandani Chowk, Ahmednagar. However, Take’s associate, Rajendra Chavan, managed to escape with the bike. Take confessed to the robbery and revealed that the gold chain was sold in Rahata.

In another recent incident, the Gangapur police in Nashik arrested two chain snatchers who confessed to committing five chain robberies in the city. The police were able to solve multiple cases with the arrest and recovered 121 grams of stolen gold chains. The police commissioner Sandeep Karnik felicitated two residents for their assistance in apprehending the snatchers.
