The devastating incident occurred at approximately 1:52 p.m. on Friday, on Route 220, just south of Burhman Road in Botetourt County.

According to the authorities, a northbound 2007 Dodge Caliber veered across the center line and collided with a southbound 2011 Kenworth tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Dodge has been identified as 24-year-old Kayla Sowers from Clifton Forge. Tragically, Sowers succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident.

Fortunately, the driver of the Kenworth tractor-trailer escaped the collision unharmed. The Virginia State Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and are seeking to determine the factors that led to this tragic outcome.
