In a shocking incident that unfolded between September and October this year, Abbas Tahebhai Mithaiwala (54), a resident of Thane, has been booked by the Sinhagad Police for allegedly cheating a 49-year-old man. The victim, Antar Sakharam Ambre, who resides in DSK Vishwa, Dhayari, fell prey to Mithaiwala’s deceitful tactics, resulting in a loss of ₹31 lakh. The police registered an FIR on December 15, marking the initiation of a thorough investigation into the matter.

According to the filed FIR, the accused managed to convince Ambre to invest in a company called Abinfinta Trade & advisory Ptv Ltd, based in Singapore. Mithaiwala successfully obtained ₹11 lakh from the victim and even paid him ₹1.10 lakh as a five per cent return on the investment amount. Building trust with Ambre, Mithaiwala lured him further by promising higher returns on an additional investment of ₹20 lakh. However, the accused failed to fulfill his promise and never transferred the money to Ambre.

When Ambre persistently demanded a refund, Mithaiwala handed him a cheque worth ₹60 lakh, which unfortunately bounced. To add to the deception, Mithaiwala presented a draft agreement, falsely promising to transfer his wife’s property to Ambre. However, this draft agreement was never executed legally.

Feeling cheated and deceived, Ambre decided to seek justice and approached the police. Consequently, an FIR was registered against Mithaiwala under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Although the police are actively investigating the case, no arrests have been made thus far, as confirmed by officials.

It is crucial for individuals to remain cautious and vigilant while making investments and conducting financial transactions.
