The Death Toll Rises to 12 in Sparkling Candle Manufacturing Unit Fire in Talawade

The tragic incident at a sparkling candle manufacturing unit in Talawade has claimed the lives of 12 people, as another injured worker, identified as 25-year-old Sayaji Godhade, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Sayaji Godhade, a resident of Rupi Nagar, Talawade, suffered severe burns during the fire incident.

The fire broke out in the sparkling candle manufacturing unit called Shivraj Enterprises, located in the Jyotiba Nagar area of Talawade at around 3 pm on December 8. This incident was reported by the Indian Express.

The police investigation reveals that the unit was operating illegally without any safety measures in place.

The victims who lost their lives on December 8 were identified as Rama Devendra Abdar (27) and Lata Bharat Dangikar (40) from Chikhali, Punam Abhay Kumar Mishra (37), Mangal Babasaheb Kharbade (49), and Radha Sayaji Godhade (17) from Talawade, and Kamladevi Suraj Prajapati (62) from Dehu Gaon.

Kavita Ganesh Rathod (45) and Pratiksha Ashok Torne (16) succumbed to their injuries at the hospital on December 9. Shilpa Ganesh Rathod (31), also a resident of Talawade, passed away on December 10. Priyanka Amol Yadav (32) and Apeksha Ashok Toarane, both from Talawade, tragically lost their lives on December 14.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the police have arrested four individuals, including Sharad Surat (40), the operator of the sparkling candle manufacturing unit. He has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including culpable homicide (section 304(2)) and negligent conduct with respect to fire (sections 285 and 286). Additionally, sections 337 and 338, which pertain to causing grievous hurt by acts endangering life or personal safety, have also been invoked. Furthermore, the Explosives Act has been invoked in this case.
