The incident took place on December 4, when Timothy Ross, a 31-year-old resident of Bloomfield, was fatally shot in the vicinity of 590 Bloomfield Ave. Ross was immediately rushed to Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford via an ambulance, where he was tragically pronounced dead, as confirmed by the Bloomfield Police Department.

The Bloomfield Police Department Detective Unit identified Devante Swaby, a 29-year-old individual from Peoria, Arizona, as a suspect in the homicide following a thorough investigation.

A warrant for Swaby’s arrest was issued on December 12, charging him with multiple offenses including murder, criminal use of a weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of an assault weapon, and possession of weapons in a motor vehicle. The police have set a court-set bond of $5 million for Swaby.

Upon discovering that Swaby had fled the state, the Bloomfield Police Department sought the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force. Following an intense investigation, U.S. Marshals located and apprehended Swaby at a residence situated in the 8100 block of N 99th Ave. in Peoria, Arizona, on Friday evening.

Swaby was subsequently transported to the Peoria Police Department, where he is currently being held pending his extradition back to Connecticut, as stated by the police.

A vigil was held in Bloomfield on Thursday night, where more than 40 friends and family members of Timothy Ross gathered to remember him.

During the vigil, Reverend Henry Brown, co-founder of Mothers United Against Violence, expressed his grief and condemned the act that took Ross’ life.

“We are only 11 days away from Christmas, and this man won’t be able to spend it with his family,” stated Rev. Brown. “That’s absolutely devastating. I strongly condemn whoever is responsible for taking his life.”

According to Brown, Timothy Ross is survived by his two daughters, a brother, and a mother. The loss of their loved one has left them devastated, particularly in the face of the upcoming Christmas season.
