Thane: A 26-year-old woman, Priya Singh, suffered severe injuries when her boyfriend, the son of a senior bureaucrat in Maharashtra, allegedly tried to run her over with his car near a hotel in Thane. Priya, a social media influencer and co-owner of a beauty salon with her sister, was hit by a Land Rover Defender on Ovala Road in Thane’s Ghodbunder area, as reported by a local news outlet.

The woman recounted the terrifying incident, revealing that it started with an argument that escalated into her boyfriend physically assaulting her, attempting to strangle her, and later instructing his driver to run her over.

The incident occurred on December 11, and the Kasarvadavali police station registered a case against the accused, Ashwajit Gaikwad, and two others. The charges include voluntarily causing hurt, rash driving, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, among others, under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to a police official, the incident took place around 4:30 am near a hotel on Ghodbunder Road, where Priya had gone to meet Gaikwad. The argument between the couple escalated, and when Priya collected her belongings from the car and started to leave, the driver intentionally tried to run her over, causing her to fall and sustain serious injuries.

In the aftermath of the incident, Priya took to social media to share her account of what happened. In her Instagram post, she alleged that her boyfriend, Ashwajit, who is the son of Anil Gaikwad, the joint MD of MSRDC, used his connections to cover up the incident. Frustrated with the lack of action from the police, she resorted to social media to narrate her ordeal. She also posted pictures of her injuries.

Priya further claimed that the Kasarvadavali police were negligent in their investigation, as they did not invoke stringent sections such as attempted murder against the accused. Four days after the incident, no arrests had been made.

A senior police official denied the allegations made by Priya, stating that the investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made thus far.

Following the attack, a passerby rescued Priya from the road and promptly alerted the local police. When Ashwajit’s driver, Sagar, noticed the stranger helping Priya, he returned to the scene to check if she was dead or alive. Sagar allegedly threatened the passerby, warning them against involving the police. He then took Priya to a nearby hospital but absconded after Priya informed her family about the incident.
