Moving on to a different story, the Williamsburg Apartments have been under scrutiny for unsanitary and unsafe living conditions for over a year. Now, one of the owners could face prison time, but not for how the property was managed. WLWT Investigative Reporter Jatara McGee shares the latest developments. It only takes a short amount of time for an irresponsible landlord to run an apartment complex into the ground, but it takes years to fix it. The conditions in the Williamsburg Apartments last year were deplorable, with sewage flowing into apartments, rodents, and lack of running water. City leaders received numerous complaints and eventually sued the owners of the complex. Now, one of the owners, Baruch Barrett Roman, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He conspired with others to fraudulently obtain over $165 million in loans to buy properties. Investigators discovered that Roman provided lenders with fake documents, including inflated purchase and sales contracts. The Williamsburg Apartments were acquired for $70 million, but Roman and his co-conspirators presented lenders with a contract for $95 million using a stolen identity. Roman will be sentenced in April and could face up to five years in prison. The litigation is ongoing, with plans to sell the complex to a new owner once it is brought up to code.

In another news update, a 19-year-old named Michael Smith was killed in a shooting in the Villages at Roll Hill. Cincinnati police responded to a call on Williamsburg Drive on Friday afternoon and found Smith unconscious and in critical condition. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Additionally, more details have emerged about the tragic incident at a sewage pumping facility in Bromley where two construction workers were killed. Sources reveal that a catastrophic failure caused a rush of water into the space where the workers were. Something went wrong in the empty concrete structure, and the plugs that were supposed to keep water out failed. Sewage water flooded in, trapping two of the workers who sadly lost their lives. The two victims have been identified as Josh Mason, 26, from Moscow, Ohio, and Mason Nieces, 23, from Alexander, Kentucky. The third worker managed to escape, climbing to the top of the structure before the water rushed in.

In a positive development, the Ohio State Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal involving the six-week abortion ban, also known as the heartbeat law. The court dismissed the appeal because the law changed when voters passed Issue One last month. Issue One protected access to abortion in the state constitution, effectively blocking the abortion ban. The case will now return to Hamilton County, where a judge previously called the law unconstitutional.
