Connecticut Fugitive Arrested in Arizona for Fatal Shooting in Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – The U.S. Marshals Service has successfully apprehended a fugitive from Connecticut who was wanted in connection to the tragic and deadly shooting of a man in Bloomfield, Arizona on Friday, authorities have confirmed.

The incident occurred on December 4th when 31-year-old Timothy Ross was shot while inside his vehicle on the 500 block of Bloomfield Avenue in Bloomfield. Following the shooting, Ross was immediately rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

In light of this devastating incident, the Bloomfield Police Department promptly obtained an arrest warrant on the same day for 29-year-old Devante Swaby, who was identified as the prime suspect in the fatal shooting.

Recognizing the urgency and significance of the case, the Bloomfield Police Department sought assistance from the U.S. Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force to locate and apprehend Swaby, who had fled to Peoria, Arizona after the incident.

Following a thorough investigation conducted by the U.S. Marshals, authorities successfully tracked down Swaby to the 8100 block of North 99th Avenue in Peoria, Arizona. On Friday, the Arizona U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force successfully arrested Swaby and subsequently transferred him to the custody of the Peoria Police Department.

Currently, Swaby is awaiting extradition to Connecticut, where he is set to face multiple charges including murder, criminal use of a weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of an assault weapon, and weapons in a motor vehicle.
