20-Year-Old Youth Tenant Arrested for Killing Mother Over Rs 5,000

Hisar/Prayagraj: A shocking incident occurred in the Hansi area of Haryana, where a 20-year-old youth tenant allegedly murdered his mother after she refused to give him Rs 5,000. The accused, identified as Himanshu Kumar, then attempted to dispose of the body by stuffing it into a suitcase and traveling all the way to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. However, his plan was foiled when he was apprehended by the police. The victim, Pratibha Devi, was a 42-year-old woman from Bihar who worked at HP Cotton Mill and lived in a rented house in Arya Nagar, Hansi.

According to Brijkishore Gautam, the officer in-charge of the Daraganj police station in Prayagraj, a case has been registered against Himanshu Kumar under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. The case will be transferred to the Hansi police for further investigation. Gautam revealed that the Prayagraj police were on patrol due to an ongoing fair at Sangam when they encountered a suspicious-looking man around 2.40am on Friday. The man attempted to mislead the police, but upon inspecting his briefcase, they discovered the lifeless body of Pratibha Devi.

Himanshu confessed to the police that he had asked his mother for Rs 5,000 out of her Rs 6,000 salary, but she had refused and scolded him. Enraged by her response, he strangled her to death and concealed her body inside a suitcase. He then boarded a train from Hansi to Ghaziabad and continued his journey by taking the Tata Nagar Express to Prayagraj. The police managed to apprehend him near Sangam. It was revealed that Himanshu had two suitcases, one containing his mother’s body and the other filled with his books and clothes.

Upon reaching Prayagraj, Himanshu hired an e-rickshaw to transport the body to Sangam for immersion the following midnight. The Prayagraj police contacted the authorities in Hisar and booked Himanshu for murder. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Himanshu’s family is originally from Gopalganj, Bihar. His father works in Bihar, and he has an elder sister who is married.

In one such case, a 20-year-old man named Himanshu Kumar was arrested in Prayagraj for the murder of his mother, Pratibha Devi, in Hisar. Rai, who worked with an NGO, had been living alone in the flat since July 2022. The cause of her death is yet to be determined, as the postmortem report is awaited. The police are investigating whether she died a natural death, took her own life, or foul play was involved.
