In other news, there have been ongoing reports about unsanitary and unsafe living conditions at the Williamsburg Apartments for over a year. City leaders took action and sued the owners of the 976-unit complex in January. The conditions in the apartments were deplorable, with sewage flowing into apartments, rodent infestations, and a lack of running water. The residents’ association has been represented by legal aid attorneys, and a court-appointed receiver has been managing the property since June. The investigation led to the arrest of Baruch Barrett Roman, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Roman and his co-conspirators fraudulently obtained over $165 million in loans to buy properties, including Williamsburg Apartments. Roman used fake documents with inflated prices to deceive lenders. He will be sentenced in April and faces up to five years in prison.

Furthermore, Cincinnati police have identified the victim of a shooting in the Villages at Roll Hill as 19-year-old Michael Smith. Smith was shot on Williamsburg Drive on Friday afternoon and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.

In another tragic incident, two construction workers were killed at a sewage pumping facility in Bromley. A catastrophic failure occurred, causing a rush of water to flood the space where the workers were. The exact cause of the failure is still under investigation, but sources suggest that something went wrong in the empty concrete structure, leading to the failure of the plugs that keep water out. The two victims have been identified as Josh Mason, 26, and Mason Nieces, 23. Another worker managed to escape as he was near the top of the structure when the water rushed in.

On a different note, abortion rights advocates in Ohio have won a significant victory. The state Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal involving the six-week abortion ban, also known as the Heartbeat Law. The court dismissed the appeal because Ohio law changed after voters passed Issue One, which protected access to abortion in the state constitution. This ruling clears the way for the abortion ban to be blocked, and the case will now return to Hamilton County for further proceedings.
