An off-duty Winnipeg police officer facing impaired driving charges

An off-duty police officer from Winnipeg is currently facing charges related to impaired driving. The incident took place at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Friday, December 8th, when authorities received a report of a suspected impaired driver leaving a business located in the 1300 block of Henderson Highway.

Following the report, law enforcement officials initiated an investigation, which ultimately led to the identification of the driver as an off-duty police officer. The officer was subsequently arrested at their residence shortly after being identified.

The case was then reviewed by the Manitoba Prosecution Services, who have since authorized charges against the officer. Oleksii Gerasymchuk, a two-year veteran of the Winnipeg Police Service, is now facing two impaired driving charges. The charges include operating a conveyance while impaired to any degree, as well as operating a conveyance while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) equal to or exceeding 80mgs within two hours of ceasing to operate the vehicle.

It is important to note that the charges against Gerasymchuk have not yet been proven in court, and the officer is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The Winnipeg Police Service has also taken the necessary steps to inform the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba about the incident. The unit will now assume a “monitor role” in the ongoing investigation.
