Northern Kentucky Man Arrested in Connection with Halloween Night Killing in Covington

In a tragic turn of events, a Northern Kentucky man has been apprehended and is now facing charges in connection with a horrifying Halloween night killing that occurred in Covington. The suspect, identified as Keith Newland, aged 27, was arrested on Wednesday evening and charged with murder, according to a news release by the Covington Police.

The discovery of the victim, Jerry Haddix, aged 55, took place on the morning of November 4th. Authorities were alerted when they received a report of a lifeless body found in Covington’s Mainstrasse neighborhood, specifically in the 300 block of West Seventh Street.

Upon further investigation, law enforcement officials revealed that Haddix’s body had undergone significant decomposition. Additionally, they found that he had sustained severe injuries, including broken vertebrae, ribs, and the hyoid bone − a small U-shaped bone located in the midline of the neck.

The breakthrough in the case came when Newland disclosed specific details about Haddix’s death, details that only someone present during the incident would be aware of, as stated by the police. Subsequently, investigators managed to gather information indicating that the killing had occurred on Halloween, precisely on October 31st.

Surveillance footage from the night of the crime showed an individual wearing a red zip-up sweatshirt, black pants, and gym shoes near Haddix’s residence, according to a criminal citation. Remarkably, when Newland was apprehended by the authorities in Newport on Wednesday, he was found wearing the same outfit.

According to court records, Newland’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 20th, where a preliminary hearing will take place. Currently, he is being held at the Kenton County Detention Center.
