According to the Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team (SIIR), new evidence reveals that security footage captured the suspect, Kerry Q. Jones-Hilburg, 34, removing security tags and concealing stolen items in his jacket on the morning of December 3. The footage also shows a possible firearm hidden in a holster on Jones-Hilburg’s right side.

Upon attempting to leave the premises with the stolen merchandise, Jones-Hilburg was intercepted by two officers. A physical struggle ensued as he resisted their efforts to apprehend him and broke free. Despite multiple attempts to tase him, Jones-Hilburg continued to resist and attempted to flee. The altercation unfolded throughout the store until one of the officers exclaimed, “He’s got a gun!” to which Jones-Hilburg responded, “No, I don’t!”

SIIR reports that Jones-Hilburg was in a kneeling position when he raised his left hand towards his chest, near the possible firearm. Officer Karl Richardson, identified as the shooter, fired a single shot at this moment.

Despite being uncooperative and non-compliant with officers’ commands, Jones-Hilburg eventually lost consciousness. Officers immediately provided medical attention as he could no longer physically resist. Tragically, Jones-Hilburg was pronounced dead at the scene.

Furthermore, a second firearm and what appeared to be Methamphetamine Fentanyl pills were found in his vehicle.

In connection with the incident, a second suspect, Tylor S. Forester, 33, was apprehended for assaulting one of the officers involved in the altercation. Forester now faces charges of third-degree assault to a law enforcement officer and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
