TOWNSHIP OF BYRON (NBC 26) — A Milwaukee man is currently in custody in Fond du Lac County after leading a deputy on a 7-mile chase on Thursday night. The incident occurred when authorities attempted to pull over the driver on northbound Interstate 41 near Lost Arrow Road in the Township of Byron. The driver had failed to move over or slow down for an emergency vehicle.

According to the deputy, instead of complying with the order to stop, the driver accelerated and started driving recklessly. In response, additional deputies deployed stop sticks, which successfully brought the vehicle to a halt south of the Johnson Street exit. The suspect then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

With the assistance of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer, Ace, authorities were able to locate and apprehend the suspect shortly after his escape attempt.

The suspect has been identified as a 42-year-old Milwaukee man. It was discovered that he was out on bond in Brown County for multiple cases, including possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, operating a vehicle with a restricted controlled substance, and operating while revoked. The bond amounts for these cases were set at $500.00 cash bond for the first charge and $1000.00 signature bond for the second charge. In addition, he faced charges of felony bail jumping and disorderly conduct, both related to domestic abuse, with a $2500.00 signature bond.

Following his arrest, the suspect was transported to the Fond du Lac County Jail, where he is currently being held on various charges. These charges include fleeing or eluding an officer, possession of THC as a repeater, possession of hallucinogenic and stimulant drugs as a repeater, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Additionally, he faces three counts of felony bail jumping.

The suspect was also arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while impaired. Furthermore, he was issued several traffic citations related to the pursuit.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol, City of Fond du Lac Police Department, and City of Fond du Lac Fire Rescue during the incident.
