St. Louis Felon Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Possession of Firearm

In a recent ruling, Judge John A. Ross of the U.S. District Court delivered a 15-year prison sentence to Doctavious Pegues, a convicted felon hailing from St. Louis, Missouri. Pegues was found guilty of possessing a handgun, leading to this severe punishment. This judgment was passed on Wednesday, marking the culmination of legal proceedings against him.

Guilty Plea and Incident Details

Back in September, the 39-year-old Pegues confessed to the charge of possession of a firearm by a felon. He admitted to his involvement in an incident that occurred on October 7, 2021. On that day, officers from the esteemed St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department were summoned to a domestic disturbance in the 3700 block of Phillips Place. While the officers were engaged in conversation with Pegues’ girlfriend, gunshots abruptly echoed from a nearby gangway, intensifying the urgency of the situation.

Discovery and Evidence

Following the gunshots, Pegues was discovered concealed in a bedroom closet at his aunt’s residence, located in the 3600 block of Winnebago, just one block away from the disturbance site. The diligent officers conducting the search then made a significant discovery – a Canik 9mm semiautomatic pistol was found on the landing of the rear stairwell. Additionally, several spent 9mm cartridge casings were recovered from the gangway, further implicating Pegues in the incident. A thorough examination of the firearm’s fingerprint evidence conclusively matched it to Pegues.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department took charge of the investigation into this case. Under the guidance of Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Martin, the prosecution presented a strong case against Pegues, leading to his conviction.
