Chandigarh District Court Declares Three Accused as Proclaimed Offenders in Rs 1 Crore Extortion Case

Chandigarh District Court made a significant development on Thursday by declaring three accused individuals as proclaimed offenders (POs) in a high-profile extortion case involving Rs 1 crore. The dismissed sub-inspector Naveen Phogat had previously surrendered before the court on November 24.

The three accused, namely Parveen Shah, Lucky, and Pawan, along with Naveen Phogat and others, were charged with kidnapping and extorting a Bathinda-based businessman on August 5. Naveen Phogat, who was serving as the additional SHO of Sector 39 at the time of the crime, surrendered after his anticipatory bail was dismissed by the local court and Punjab and Haryana High Court.

According to the police investigation, Naveen Phogat, along with Parveen Shah and constable Shiv Kumar, who were responsible for the security of Shah, conspired to extort Rs 1 crore from Sanjay Goyal, the businessman.

This recent development in the case has brought it back into the spotlight. The court’s decision to declare the three accused as proclaimed offenders signifies a major setback for the accused individuals and their legal defense. The prosecution will now intensify its efforts to bring them to justice.

It is worth noting that the case is part of a growing trend of extortion and kidnapping incidents in the region. The modus operandi of such crimes often involves individuals posing as police officers to instill fear and force victims to comply with their demands.
