On-Going Road Rage Incident Leads to Tragic Outcome

On Tuesday, December 12th, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Calgary police received a distress call from a passenger in a red 2004 Chevrolet Aveo. The caller reported an on-going road rage incident involving a black 2002 GMC Sierra. The GMC Sierra was reported to be driving erratically, swerving in and out of traffic, and the driver allegedly brandished a knife towards the occupants of the Chevrolet Aveo.

Investigations revealed that the road rage incident was triggered by a non-injury hit-and-run collision between the two vehicles, which occurred shortly before the call was made to emergency services.

While on the phone with Calgary’s 9-1-1 dispatchers, the occupants of the Chevrolet Aveo were advised to disengage from the aggressive driver of the GMC Sierra. However, they continued to follow the vehicle.

As tensions escalated, the driver of the GMC Sierra eventually pulled over and exited his vehicle in the 6900 block of Temple Drive N.E.

Fatal Altercation

Subsequently, the Chevrolet Aveo passed the GMC Sierra, and it is believed that the driver of the Sierra kicked the passenger-side of the Aveo. In response, the Aveo abruptly stopped and reversed into the driver of the Sierra, striking him and pushing him into a nearby tree. Tragically, the driver of the GMC Sierra sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both the driver and the passenger of the Chevrolet Aveo were immediately taken into custody by the authorities.

Legal Consequences

Following the incident, Steven Allen, a 34-year-old resident of Calgary and the driver of the Chevrolet Aveo, has been charged with manslaughter. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024. The passenger of the Aveo was released without charges.
