NEW DELHI: In a shocking and disturbing incident, a woman has been arrested for the murder of her 30-month-old nephew. The accused, identified as Basanti, allegedly hid the child’s body in a water tank. The incident has left the community in disbelief and has raised concerns about the safety of children.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh revealed that the police received a PCR call regarding a missing child. Upon arriving at the scene, they met the caller, Basanti, who claimed that her sister Reena’s child named Ayush had gone missing, suggesting that he had been stolen.

Basanti initially informed the police that she found Ayush outside her house crying. Out of concern, she decided to take him inside and let him sleep in his parents’ room. However, when Ayush’s 7-year-old sister arrived and couldn’t find her brother, she raised the alarm, prompting Basanti to contact the police.

CCTV footage revealed that Basanti was the only person who entered the house with the baby and left a few minutes later. No one else was seen entering the house until Ayush’s sister raised concerns about his disappearance. This raised suspicions, leading the police to conduct a thorough search of the premises.

During the investigation, including questioning Basanti, the police found her actions to be suspicious. As a result, they searched the house more extensively and eventually discovered the lifeless body of the child in a water tank. This shocking revelation left the authorities and the community devastated.

Further questioning of Basanti revealed a disturbing motive behind the murder. She confessed to killing Ayush as she suspected his father of stealing Rs 10,000 from her mother approximately 20 days ago. Basanti’s troubled relationship with her husband due to this incident allegedly fueled her anger and led her to commit this heinous act as a means of teaching her sister’s family a harsh lesson.

The police registered a case of murder against Basanti, and she was promptly arrested. The shocking incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the importance of child safety and vigilance. Authorities and child welfare organizations are working together to ensure justice for the innocent victim and to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
