The pursuit began in the early hours of December 9 when an automated license-plate reader, part of the Flock Safety system, alerted officers to a stolen 2007 Toyota Camry heading north in the 2800 block of Williams Boulevard, as reported by Cunningham.

Officers attempted to pull over the driver, Tyrell Bailey, who hails from Kenner. However, Bailey refused to comply and instead accelerated onto the Interstate 10 East onramp, stated the arrest report. Deputies from Jefferson Parish and State Police troopers joined the chase, which reached speeds exceeding 100 mph. Bailey exhibited reckless driving behavior, weaving in and out of traffic, causing other drivers to take evasive maneuvers, as mentioned in the arrest report.

The pursuit continued through New Orleans and across the Mississippi River Bridge into Terrytown. Bailey eventually exited the highway and made a U-turn towards Oakwood Center Mall on the lower West Bank Expressway, where he crashed into a curb.

In a daring move, Bailey jumped out of the still-moving car and fled through the mall’s parking lot, according to the police. At that time, he was armed with a stolen 9mm pistol equipped with an extended magazine, and he also carried a backpack. Following a brief chase, Bailey dropped the firearm and was successfully apprehended by the Kenner police.

Bailey has been charged with multiple offenses, including possession of stolen property, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of a stolen firearm, hit-and-run driving, and two counts of simple burglary, attempted burglary, and possession of stolen property following the discovery of the backpack and other stolen items taken during vehicle burglaries on Kansas Avenue prior to the chase, as revealed by Cunningham.

During the night of the incident, the stolen Camry had also been spotted on Idaho Avenue, just a few blocks away from the location of the burglaries.

Currently, Bailey is being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna, and his bail information is not immediately available.

This incident highlights the diligent efforts of the Kenner Police Department in swiftly apprehending a suspect involved in multiple crimes. The collaboration between various law enforcement agencies also played a crucial role in ensuring the successful resolution of the high-speed chase..
