According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Shamriz and two others lost their lives during combat in Shejaiya, a neighborhood situated in Gaza City. These three individuals had managed to free themselves after being held captive by Hamas fighters since October 7. Regrettably, as they ran towards the Israeli troops seeking safety, they were mistakenly shot by the soldiers.

Following the tragic event, the IDF issued a statement stating, “During a thorough scan and inspection of the incident area, suspicion arose regarding the identity of the deceased. Subsequently, the bodies were brought to Israeli territory for examination, which revealed that they were, in fact, three Israeli abductees.”

The other two victims have been identified as Yotam Haim, a 28-year-old who was abducted from Kfar Gaza on October 7, and Samer Talalka, a 24-year-old resident of the Bedouin town of Rahat who was kidnapped from Nir Am.

In response to this tragic incident, the IDF has initiated an investigation into the shootings. The statement further expressed, “This combat zone has witnessed numerous incidents in recent days. Immediate lessons from this event are being communicated to all the fighting forces present in the field.”
