A body discovered in the back of a business in Valdosta, Georgia, has resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect, according to the Valdosta Police Department.

The victim, identified as Farooq Baig, a 73-year-old individual, was found lifeless on December 8th at approximately 9 a.m. The police were alerted to a possible fatality inside the store, and upon arrival, they located Baig’s body concealed near a gaming machine in the rear of the establishment, suggesting foul play.

An initial assessment of Baig’s body revealed clear indications of physical struggle, prompting the police to treat the case as a homicide. In order to determine the cause of death, the body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The tragic incident garnered significant attention on social media, with numerous individuals expressing their condolences to Baig’s grieving family. Many described his death as senseless and shared fond memories of him.

Following an extensive investigation, the authorities concluded that the incident was an isolated occurrence, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect. Daja Kalice James, an 18-year-old individual, was apprehended by the police while she was dining at a local restaurant.

James has been charged with multiple offenses, including murder, malice murder, robbery by force, and two counts of aggravated assault, one involving strangulation, as indicated by records from Lowndes County jail.

Although McClatchy News reached out to the Valdosta Police Department for further details, no immediate response was received.

Reactions on social media were mixed, with some expressing shock at James’ involvement in the crime. Several individuals claimed to know her personally and expressed disbelief at her alleged actions, with one user even stating that they were praying for her.

James was booked into the Lowndes County jail on December 12th, where she is currently being held without bond, according to jail records.

Valdosta, located approximately 120 miles northwest of Jacksonville, Florida, is now grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event.
