Gurgaon: In a major breakthrough, the Gurgaon Police have arrested a 29-year-old man, identified as Vikas, also known as Vicky, who was the prime accused in several kidnapping cases where police uniforms were used. The arrest was made on Monday based on a tip-off received by the police.

Vikas, who had been on the run, was involved in more than a dozen crime cases across districts in Haryana and Rajasthan, according to the police. He was apprehended in Mahendergarh just as he was about to commit another crime while wearing a police uniform.

Prior to this arrest, Vikas had already faced legal trouble in a 2017 kidnapping case. In addition to kidnapping, he also faces charges of robbery, assault, illegal possession of weapons, and more.

During interrogation, Vikas revealed his connections with several gangsters, highlighting the extent of his criminal network.

The police had previously arrested some of Vikas’s associates on March 31, 2022, with illegal weapons. This arrest led to the discovery of the gang’s modus operandi, which involved notorious criminals wearing police uniforms to target and abduct individuals for extortion. Vikas was identified as the mastermind behind this criminal operation, supplying the gang members with weapons.

Upon taking Vikas into custody, the police seized a police uniform belonging to an Assistant Sub Inspector of Haryana Police, a locally made pistol, and a rifle.

ACP (crime) Varun Dahiya expressed concern over the audacity of these criminals to use the police’s image to commit crimes. He stated, “The case is very sensitive given that these criminals have the audacity to use the police’s image to commit crimes. We are interrogating Vikas, and there are chances of more details emerging.”

An FIR has been filed against Vikas under various sections, including theft, dacoity, and relevant sections of the Arms Act, at multiple police stations in the city.
