County Coroner Keith von Lutcken confirmed that the initial collision occurred on Monday, December 11th, at approximately 10:45 a.m. on North Williston Road in Florence. The unfortunate incident involved a car driven by 44-year-old Jessica Lynn Shaw, a resident of Florence. Shaw’s vehicle veered into an adjacent lane, colliding with another vehicle. Sadly, she did not survive the crash.

The second tragic incident unfolded on December 12th, at the intersection of South Irby Street and Poor Farm Road in Effingham around 5:50 a.m. The victim, identified as 23-year-old Dustin Matthew Brown from Darlington, collided with the back of a cement truck. Brown was immediately airlifted to MUSC in Charleston for critical medical attention. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Brown succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

While Von Lutcken acknowledged the existence of a third victim, the identity has not yet been disclosed, as the coroner’s office is still in the process of notifying the family.
