Murder Witnesses killed: Two Arrested in Chatra, Jharkhand

Chatra: In a shocking incident, two persons have been arrested for allegedly killing two prime murder witnesses in Chatra, Jharkhand. The victims, identified as Mahendra Yadav (50) and his nephew Rameshwar Yadav (35), were on their way to the court to get their statements registered when they were brutally attacked.

The accused, Sikendra Kumar (20) and Jitendra Kumar (19), have confessed to the crime and have also named a few others who were involved in the case, according to Ashok Priyadarshi, the senior inspector of Simaria police station. The police have stated that the accused used rods and stones to kill the witnesses. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the remaining individuals involved.

The incident took place on December 1 near Ramtunda football ground on the Chatra-Giddhaur Road. The victims, residents of Kendua village in Giddhaur, were found lying unconscious by villagers who rushed to the spot. Mahendra Yadav was pronounced dead on the scene, while Rameshwar Yadav was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries soon after.

Initially, the police had assumed the incident to be a road accident. However, the family of the victims claimed that it was a planned murder made to look like a road accident. They filed a complaint stating that the uncle-nephew duo had been receiving threats for becoming witnesses in a murder case.

Upon receiving the complaint, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan formed a ten-member team led by Ashok Priyadarshi. The autopsy report confirmed that the victims were indeed murdered. The two accused, Sikendra Kumar and Jitendra Kumar, were subsequently arrested and produced before a local court. They have been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
