Three Workers killed and Over 30 Injured as Brick Kiln Chimney Collapses in West Bengal

KOLKATA: Tragedy struck the Dhaltitah village in Basirhat, West Bengal, as a brick kiln chimney collapsed, resulting in the death of three workers and leaving more than 30 people injured, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening while the brick kiln was in operation, causing panic and chaos among the workers present at the site.
“All the injured individuals are workers from the brick kiln. While one person succumbed to their injuries while being treated at a nearby hospital, the bodies of two victims were discovered under the debris,” stated a police officer.
“Approximately 20 individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at Basirhat Hospital. Additionally, two critically injured persons were transferred to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata,” the officer added.

Among the deceased, two hailed from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, identified as Jethuram and Rakesh Kumar. The third victim was Hafizul Mondal, a local resident of the area.
A substantial police force has been deployed to conduct the ongoing rescue operation at the accident site, aiming to save any potential survivors.
The cause of the chimney collapse remains unknown and is currently under investigation by the authorities.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening at Dhaltitah village in Basirhat when the brick kiln was in operation, they said.

“Around 20 people are undergoing treatment at the Basirhat Hospital. Two injured persons were sent to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata as their condition was very critical,” he said.
Among those killed, two were from Faizabad in UP — Jethuram and Rakesh Kumar.
The other deceased was identified as Hafizul Mondal, a local.
A huge team of police has been deployed for the rescue operation, which is still underway, the officer said.
