Even as the investigation into the recent Parliament security breach continues, the arrest of four intruders has sparked a political face-off in India. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya has claimed that the breach is inextricably linked to the Congress-Communist axis. On the other hand, the INDIA alliance is pushing for action against BJP MP Pratap Simha.

According to Malviya, “As details emerge, it is getting obvious that the DNA of those who breached Parliament security is inextricably linked to the Congress-Communist axis. They were part of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and active participants in the orchestrated protests seen in the past…”

Demands for Action

Meanwhile, INDIA parties are demanding a detailed statement by the Home Minister in both Houses of Parliament and strict action against BJP MP Pratap Simha, who provided visitor passes to the intruders.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh expressed his concerns and posted on X, stating, “The INDIA parties are demanding: 1. a detailed statement by the Home Minister in both Houses, followed by a discussion on the very serious and shocking security breach witnessed in the Lok Sabha yesterday. 2. Strict action against the BJP MP Pratap Simha, who provided the visitor passes to the intruders. The Modi government’s refusal to accept these perfectly legitimate and reasonable demands has led to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha today morning.”

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram also emphasized the seriousness of the issue, stating, “This is a very serious issue…You cannot brush this issue as some sort of protest by some exuberant youth…The canisters fortunately had only inert gas but could have had poisonous gas…”

Suspension of Security Personnel

In response to the security lapses during the Parliament security breach incident, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has suspended eight security personnel. The suspended security personnel have been identified as Rampal, Arvind, Vir Das, Ganesh Anil, Pardeep, Vimitt, and Narender.

Adjournment and Demands for Resignation

The Lok Sabha on Thursday was adjourned till 2 pm after opposition members created a ruckus, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed concern about the incident and emphasized that the security of the House is the responsibility of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also addressed the issue, urging members to remain vigilant while issuing passes to people entering the Parliament. He assured that all precautions would be taken in the future to prevent such incidents.

Chaos in the Parliament

The ruckus continued in the Lok Sabha, with a few opposition members entering the well of the House, leading to another adjournment until 2 pm. In the Rajya Sabha, opposition members demanded Home Minister Amit Shah to make a statement on the security breach.

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar named TMC MP Derek O’Brien and asked him to leave the House, citing a “breach of privilege.”

Arrest and Enquiry

Earlier, the Delhi Police arrested two intruders, Manoranjan D and Sagar Sharma. Two more individuals, Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde, were apprehended outside Parliament, where they opened similar smoke canisters. All four individuals have been charged under the anti-terror Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

In response to the incident, the Lok Sabha Secretariat requested an enquiry, leading to the formation of a committee under the Central Reserve Police Force Director General Anish Dayal Singh. The committee, comprising members from various security agencies and experts, will investigate the breach, identify lapses, and recommend further action.

The investigation committee will submit its report with recommendations, including suggestions for improving security in Parliament, at the earliest, as stated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

As the investigation continues, the political face-off surrounding the Parliament security breach intensifies. The demands for action against the BJP MP and the suspension of security personnel highlight the gravity of the breach and the need for accountability..
