VIJAYAWADA: The long-standing battle of an octogenarian woman from Kakinada to receive a family pension has finally come to an end after six decades. B Krishna Veni, an 88-year-old woman, has received a pension and arrears amounting to over Rs 15 lakh, thanks to the intervention of the Lokayukta.

Born in 1935, Krishna Veni got married to B Seshagiri Rao, a native of East Godavari district. Unfortunately, Rao, who worked as an assistant executive engineer in the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, passed away in 1962 due to a road accident. Krishna Veni, along with their two children, approached higher officials in the R&B Department, submitting a petition to seek a pension.

Despite their efforts, the officials failed to process Krishna Veni’s petition, leaving her in a state of frustration. Determined to find a solution, she turned to the Lokayukta in 2021 and filed her grievances. After carefully examining her petition, Lokayukta Justice P Lakshmana Reddy ordered officials of the Kakinada division sub-treasury to grant the family pension and clear all pending dues.

Accrued Pension Amounts to Rs 19 Lakh

The pension accumulated since her husband’s demise, along with dearness relief, medical allowances, and related arrears, amounted to a total of Rs 19,93,639. After deducting the statutory amount of over Rs 4 lakh, Krishna Veni finally received Rs 15,70,529 as a family pension.
