Four People Found Dead in Burning Home Near Madison, Indiana

Indiana State Police have identified the four individuals who tragically lost their lives in a devastating house fire near Madison on Tuesday afternoon. The victims have been identified as Naomi Sue Briner, aged 35, Adelia Briner, aged 12, Leland Briner, aged 8, and Iyla Briner, aged 6. It has been determined that Naomi Briner was the mother of the three younger victims.

Authorities have revealed that all four individuals had sustained gunshot wounds prior to the fire engulfing the residence, as a result of further investigation. This shocking discovery has added another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.

Fire Engulfs Home on East Telegraph Hill Road

The incident occurred at a property located at 1623 East Telegraph Hill Road, approximately 2 miles northeast of Madison. The home, which was owned by Naomi Briner since April 2009, was completely consumed by flames when emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Responding to a call received by the Jefferson County 911 center at around 4:10 p.m., first responders encountered a fierce blaze that had engulfed both the home and the garage. Tragically, upon entering the residence, firefighters discovered the lifeless bodies of the woman and her three children. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, all four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire by 5:12 p.m., allowing investigators to begin their examination of the scene. Throughout the night and into Wednesday afternoon, investigators meticulously combed through the remnants of the burnt house, seeking answers to the tragic events that unfolded.

East Telegraph Hill Road, a narrow and winding two-lane country road, remained closed to traffic during the investigation, causing disruptions to local commuters.

Autopsies to Determine Cause and Manner of death

Autopsies have been scheduled at the Hamilton County, Ohio, medical examiner’s office to establish the cause and manner of death for each victim. The identities of the deceased individuals were released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, following proper identification and notification of the family members.

While this remains an ongoing investigation, Indiana State Police Investigators, in collaboration with the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, are working diligently to thoroughly examine every aspect of this tragic incident.

Naomi Briner, a 2006 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School, was employed as a health services administrator at the Indiana Department of Correction’s Madison Correctional Facility. The three children, two girls, and one boy, were students at Madison schools, leaving the entire community devastated by their untimely deaths.

Indiana State Police have reassured the public that, at this time, they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community. However, the investigation continues, and authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in bringing justice to the victims and their grieving loved ones.
